Maydan Cafe
About us
Opened in October 2025, Maydan Cafe is a community-centered space dedicated to serving high-quality foods and beverages made with natural and organic ingredients whenever possible. We proudly support local artisans and small businesses - everything from our furnishings to our food is thoughtfully sourced to reflect our values. Sustainability is at the heart of what we do, with eco-friendly products, composting practices, and a deep commitment to minimizing our environmental footprint.
Co-owners, Rob & Sarah, reside in Baldwinsville, and have always had a passion for cooking quality food together. Rob brings 30 years of experience from the food industry and Sarah is a Registered Dietitian with an entrepreneurial background.
The name Maydan was inspired by our children's names, Maya and Aidan, and upon researching were surprised to find it's also a real word (who knew!). It was originally a Persian word which has been adopted by many other languages in various spellings. It means a public gathering place, square, or open space in the center of town…. super fitting for our community centered space, located in the heart of Baldwinsville.
Maydan is pronounced MAY-dən (it rhymes with Aidan).
Our logo was carefully curated, keeping the cafe's mission in mind. The central elements are the leaves, which form an "M" shape, representing Maydan, while also reflecting its values of sustainability and connection to nature. The circular arrangement symbolizes community and togetherness. Around the leaves, there are stylized human figures that represent the social space the cafe creates, highlighting connection and warmth.
